Who writes here
Edited by Klaus Mönkemüller, MD, PhD, FASGE, FJGES, FESGE — Professor of Medicine at Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine and a practicing endoscopist at Carilion Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, Virginia. Dr. Mönkemüller has published over 200 peer-reviewed articles, contributed to multiple GI endoscopy textbooks and atlases, and lectures internationally on therapeutic endoscopy, foreign body removal, and the use of accessories and caps in everyday practice.
Articles are contributed by a global network of practicing gastroenterologists, surgeons, fellows, residents, and pathologists. Each case is bylined to its real authors with credentials and institution. See the full contributor roster.
How we publish
Submissions arrive through our case submission form or by direct invitation. Each is reviewed by the editor for clinical accuracy, image quality, and educational value. Accepted cases go through one editorial pass for clarity and consistency before publication; the original author reviews the edited version before it goes live.
Patient anonymity is preserved in every image and narrative. We cite peer-reviewed primary sources where articles make clinical claims that aren't general knowledge. We accept no third-party advertising, no industry sponsorship, and no paid placement. We may occasionally promote EndoCollab resources, including memberships, courses, and books.
Independence
The Practicing Endoscopist is an editorially independent publication of EndoCollab, a community for practicing GI endoscopists. The publication funds itself through reader-supported newsletter subscriptions and the EndoCollab community; it does not run third-party advertising or sponsored content. Industry-funded research, when it appears in a referenced source, is identified as such.
Audience
The Practicing Endoscopist is written for clinicians: practicing gastroenterologists and endoscopists, surgeons performing endoscopy, GI fellows and IM residents considering GI, advanced practice providers, and endoscopy nurses. The content assumes a clinical background. We do not write for, and the site is not appropriate for, patients seeking advice about their own conditions.
